Books that feel like....
One of the reasons I love to read seasonally is that I feel this helps me become truly immersed in the vibe of a story. This spring I’ve already enjoyed historical tales set in regency England, a story set in a small town in rural France and visited some windswept cottages at the very top of the Scottish Highlands. All of which have uniquely captured the gentle magic of this season*. I believe that every book has it’s own specific feeling or vibe. Forget the roses, stop and smell the gorse...
27th of April 2026 Lately, my nature notebook has been scented with the unmistakable aroma of gorse. Unlike the soft floral fragrance of many of our other spring wildflowers, rather unusually, gorse emits a sweet scent of coconut, something that you wouldn’t normally associate with the very untropical climate of the Scottish Highlands. I’ve noticed that this smell seems at its most potent in the evenings, when these yellow blooms have had the entire day to soak up the spring sunshine.
